Protest against new service law in Bangladesh (symbolic photo)
Dhaka/New Delhi: On Monday, hundreds of government employees locked the main gate of the Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital Dhaka, intensifying the protest against the new service law. The new law provides for easily sacking the authorities for misconduct. According to eyewitnesses and media reports, the officers and employees of the secretariat locked the main gate on the third day of their protest against the Public Service (Amendment) Act. The Ministry and important government offices are located in the secretariat.
Employees threatened to continue demonstrations
According to reports, the official activities inside the campus were stalled to a great extent due to the stoppage of the work by the employees. Protests began after the an interim government headed by Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus notified the revised law, which could easily dismiss the authorities for misconduct. Government employees have threatened to continue the protest until the ordinance is canceled. Officials have deployed additional police forces, vigilance against any possible violence in the campus.
