The interim government of Bangladesh has constituted a committee to investigate allegations of irregularities, corruption and administrative involvement in the general elections of 2014, 2018 and 2024 and to make recommendations regarding future fair elections. This information is given in a notification.
A five-member committee under the leadership of former High Court Judge Shamim Hasnain will submit a report about the allegations by 30 September.
BD News 24 on Thursday quoted the Cabinet Division notification as saying that the committee would investigate the allegation whether people were systematically denied their right to vote in order to win the then ruling Awami League party in the three elections.
The notification stated that the rule, democracy and fundamental human rights of the law were allegedly weakened during the elections, which was widely criticized at the domestic and international levels.
