Beijing: The devastating earthquake that struck Tibet on Tuesday morning has taken away their homes from many people. It has become very difficult for the survivors who lost their homes in this terrible disaster to find shelter to protect themselves from the cold and to cover their heads. Rescue workers engaged in relief and rescue operations remained busy searching for survivors and victims on Wednesday. Describing the horror of the earthquake, a Communist Party leader who lost his mother said that no one even had a chance to escape.
At least 126 people died in the earthquake

Tremors felt in Kathmandu also
Even in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu, people frightened by the earthquake came out of their homes. Tsering Phuntsog, Communist Party chief of Tibet’s Gurum village, told China’s state news agency Xinhua on Tuesday that the dead included at least 22 of Gurum’s 222 residents. His 74-year-old mother was also among those who lost their lives in the earthquake, while many of his other relatives are still buried under the debris. Tsering Phuntsog said, ‘Even young people could not come out of their homes when the earthquake struck, leave alone the elderly and children.’
‘1850 rescue teams deployed’
Citing the city administration in Shigatse, ‘Xinhua’ said that according to the initial survey, more than 3,600 houses have collapsed and 30 thousand people have been transferred. After the earthquake, more than 500 aftershocks were recorded. The US Geological Survey reported the earthquake’s intensity as 7.1 on the Richter scale, while China’s earthquake center recorded an intensity of 6.8.
