A student died and four others were injured in a stabbing inside a school in Croatia’s capital, Zagreb. On Friday, a teenager attacked a school with a knife, killing a seven-year-old student and injuring four people. The attack took place at a school in the Preko area at 9:50 a.m. The attacker, identified as a 19-year-old boy, was taken into custody, officials said.
Police officials said the attacker also tried to harm himself. State-run HRT Television reported that the attacker entered the school and went straight into the first class and attacked the children.
Attacker also injured
Croatia’s Interior Minister Davor Bojinovic said three children and a teacher were injured, while one child died while the attacker was also wounded. “The 19-year-old attacker is a former student of the school and lives in the nearby area,” Bojinovich said. He tried to commit suicide by attacking himself but was controlled by the police. Bojinovich said the attacker had mental health problems in the past and had tried to commit suicide before. Video footage broadcast by Croatian media showed students running out of the school building.
