Bangladesh Protest

Dhaka: A writ petition has been filed in the Bangladesh High Court, requesting a ban on all Indian TV channels in the country citing the telecast of inflammatory news. This information was given in a news. According to the news of ‘Dhaka Tribune’, lawyer Ikhlas Uddin Bhuiyan has filed a petition in this regard. Bhuiyan said that a bench of Justice Fatima Najeeb and Justice Sikdar Mahmudur Razi can hear the case.

Petition against Indian TV channels

The report said that a writ petition has been filed in the High Court under Section 29 of the ‘Cable Television Network Operation Act 2006’ requesting a direction to ban the broadcasting of all Indian TV channels in Bangladesh. It was reported in the news that a request has been made to ban ‘Star Jalsa’, ‘Star Plus’, ‘Zee Bangla’, ‘Republic Bangla’ and all other Indian TV channels.

Channels are not following the rules

The petition alleged that inflammatory news was being broadcast on Indian channels and uncontrolled telecast of content opposing Bangladeshi culture was having a negative impact on the youth. It was claimed that these channels are not following any rules. Secretaries of the Ministry of Information and Home Ministry, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and others have been made parties in the petition.

Relations between India and Bangladesh became tense

Let us tell you that in August this year, relations between India and Bangladesh have been tense since the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from power and the coming to power of the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus. India continues to express concern over attacks on minorities, especially Hindus, in Bangladesh.

Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested

The diplomatic row between India and Bangladesh began when Chinmay Krishna Das, a former ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) member and spiritual leader, was arrested in Dhaka on November 25. Das was arrested in a sedition case and later a court refused to grant him bail, following which community members started protests in various places including the capital Dhaka and Chittagong.
