Donald Trump Talks With Xi Jinping: America’s newly elected President Donald Trump has spoken to Chinese President Xi Jinping on phone before his swearing-in. The phone conversation between the two leaders took place at a time when Trump’s swearing-in ceremony is going to take place on January 20. Donald Trump had once described China as his biggest enemy. Apart from this, many serious allegations were made against Beijing regarding trade.
What did Donald Trump say?
After the phone conversation, Trump told on his social media platform that he had discussed many important issues with Chinese President Xi Jinping. This included issues like trade, fentanyl (drug) and TikTok. He said, this conversation was very good for China and America. I hope that together we will solve many problems and it will start soon. We discussed trade, fentanyl, TikTok and many other issues. He further said, President Xi and I will do our best to make the world more peaceful and secure.
Xi will not attend Trump’s swearing-in
This conversation took place when the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that Xi Jinping would not attend Trump’s swearing-in ceremony. Vice President Han Zheng will instead attend the ceremony as Xi’s special representative. Earlier, on January 6, Trump had said that he and Xi Jinping have been in contact through representatives and are optimistic about relations between the two countries.

It is noteworthy that in Trump’s second term, there may be tension in US-China relations on issues like trade, technology and Taiwan. Trump had threatened to impose 60 percent duty on all goods imported from China. However, he praised relations with Xi and said China could help resolve international crises such as the Ukraine war.
