President Draupadi Murmu gets ‘Off Honor of City’
Lisbon Mayor Carlos Moeedas welcomed President Draupadi Murmu at a ceremony to be awarded the ‘City of Honor’ and said, “Hello! Madhya Pradesh. Welcome to Lisbon. ”The President, who arrived on a two -day state visit to Portugal, was given a salute guard in Camera Municipal D Lisboa. He was taken to the Nobel Salon ‘, where he was organized to honor the’ City of Honor ‘and the room was filled with Indians settled there.

Moeedas said that President Murmu has become an honorary citizen of Lisbon with being awarded the ‘Off Honor of the City’. Starting his address with the traditional Portuguese greeting ‘Bom Dia’, the President said, “Cultural relations between India and Portugal have been going on for centuries and they have left an indelible mark on our daily lives.” “The common sense of responsibility in international affairs makes us natural partners on regional and multilateral forums,” he said. The President said that “India has been a valuable partner of India in promoting our relations with the Portugal European Union as well as the Portuguese countries, where the Portuguese is the official language.” He said, “The evidence of this strong cultural association in Portugal can also be seen in the widespread popularity of Indian art, culture, food, yoga and Ayurveda.”
Describing Indian migrants as “the foundation of our relations”, he said that they are making valuable contribution to the society and economy of Portugal.
Mayor remembers PM Modi’s words
Earlier in his speech, the Mayor recalled the words of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who cited the principle of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (Vishwa Ek Family) from Upanishads during the G20. He said, “This sentence tells everything. We should deny social division, we versus they.” The number of Indian communities in Portugal is around 1,25,000, including more than 35,000 Indian citizens and 90,000 people of Indian origin. Most of these roots are in Gujarat and Goa. Portugal has a population of about one crore.
Travel is special in many ways
An Indian President has a visit to Portugal 27 years later and Slovakia after 29 years. The visit of President Murmu is taking place at a time when significant economic changes are taking place globally, in which recently the US trade charges have given a new appearance to international commerce and India’s participation with Europe is increasing. In February, European Commission Chairman Ursula von Der Leyen and other representatives visited India.
