Earthquake again in Myanmar, people scared of 5.5 magnitude earthquake

by Rajeev Bansal
April 14, 2025

Earthquake tremors were felt once again in Myanmar on Sunday morning. According to the National Center for Sisamology (NCS), the epicenter of the earthquake was in the Mekatila region of Myanmar, where its intensity was measured at 5.5 on the Richter scale. However, there is no news of any major damage or loss of life and property from this earthquake.

Mikatala is an important city in Myanmar. This area falls geographically in an earthquake sensitive zone, where seismic activities are seen from time to time.

Earlier on March 28, a strong tremor of earthquake was felt in Myanmar, an earthquake of 7.7 magnitude. During that time there was a lot of fear among the people, because the intensity and depth of the earthquake had an impact on the surrounding areas. Experts say that Myanmar is located at the junction of Himalayan belts and other tectonic plates, due to which the area is highly sensitive to earthquakes.

The depth of the Sunday earthquake and other technical details is still being analyzed, so that its effects can be accurately assessed.

The local administration has appealed to the people to be vigilant and stay in safe places. Rescue and relief teams are ready to deal with any emergency after the earthquake. Myanmar has a history of earthquakes and small and big tremors have been felt many times in the last few years. Scientists believe that such activities are the result of a collision of tectonic plates.

United Nations warned

The United Nations warned last week that the damage to the earthquake on March 28 would make the current humanitarian crisis worse in Myanmar, where more than 3 million people have already been displaced due to the Civil War. The United Nations said that the earthquake has disrupted agricultural production badly and has created a situation of health emergency.
