The death of a person has been confirmed due to this earthquake in Thailand, while 43 people are said to be missing. Relief and rescue teams reach the spot and are continuously conducting rescue operations.
Shocks felt in Bangladesh
In Bangladesh, earthquake tremors created an atmosphere of fear. Vibration was felt in the capital Dhaka, major port city Chittagong, and other parts. The intensity of the earthquake here on the Richter scale was measured at 7.3. However, no casualties have been reported so far, but there are reports of cracks in many buildings and damage to houses.
India confident of assistance
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep concern over the situation in Myanmar, Thailand and Bangladesh after this devastating earthquake. He said that India is ready to provide all possible help to these countries. The Prime Minister has instructed the Indian administration and the Ministry of External Affairs to keep in touch with the governments of these countries and make every effort to help in the relief work.
Prime Minister Modi prayed for the safety of the affected people, saying, “We are standing with our neighboring countries in these difficult circumstances and India is ready for all possible help.”
Emphasis on relief work
Relief and rescue operations are going on fast in earthquake affected areas. Local administrative teams in Myanmar, Thailand and Bangladesh are busy in evacuating people trapped in the debris. Electricity and communication system has been affected in many areas, which is being tried to restore.
Red Cross, United Nations and other international relief organizations have also activated their teams to deliver essential things like food items, medicines and shelters to the affected areas.
