Earthquake: Strong earthquakes were felt on the west coast of New Zealand, the intensity of which was measured 6.2 on the Richter scale. According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred shortly after 1:00 pm on Monday night. Its center was about 10 kilometers below the sea surface, about 300 km south-west of the inverterkil.
Surveillars in New Zealand have described the earthquake as moderate intensity. No immediate information has been found regarding the damage from the earthquake in New Zealand. New Zealand has a population of 50 million and is located on the “Ring of Fire”. The region is spread around the Pacific Ocean, where earthquakes and volcanic activities are considered common.
What are the causes of earthquake?
Indeed, the main causes of earthquake are the dynamics and mutual conflicts of geological plates. The outer surface of the earth is made of seven large and several small tectonic plates. These plates remain in constant motion. When these plates collide, slide or go under each other, that energy takes out as an earthquake. Stress is collected over time in the edge of the plates or in the fault lines. When this stress exceeds a range, the rocks break and suddenly energy is free, causing an earthquake. At the same time, earthquakes can also occur due to volcanic burst or increasing pressure inside the magma. These are called volcanic earthquakes and are felt in a limited area.
