Cairo: A paramilitary group fighting against Sudan’s army attacked a market in Omdurman city in which 54 people were killed. Health officials gave this information on Saturday. The Health Ministry said in a statement that at least 158 others were injured in the attack by ‘Rapid Support Force’ (RSF) in Sabreen Market on Saturday.

Women and children are also involved in casualties

There has been no immediate comment in this regard from RSF. Culture Minister and government spokesperson Khalid al-Alisir condemned the attack and said that many women and children were among the casualties. He also said that the attack “has widely damaged private and public properties”.

Condemnation of attack

Sudan’s ‘Doctor Syndicate’ condemned the RSF attack. It said that a Gola al-Nava fell a few meters away from the hospital, where the most people in the market were casualties. It said that most of the bodies brought to the hospital are of women and children. It also said that there is a huge shortage of medical parties, especially surgeons and nurses in the hospital.

Conflict in Sudan from April 2023

The struggle in Sudan began in April 2023 when tension between the army and RSF members turned into a fight in the capital Khartum and other cities of the Northeast African country. Last week, around 70 people were killed in an RSF attack on the only hospital in the western area of Darfur, the city of El Fasher. The International Crime Court said that it is investigating the alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity and the Biden administration has accused the RSF and its supporters of massacre in the war.

Temporary ban on social media

Citing concerns over the spread of video content related to the violence related to South Sudani citizens in Sudan, South Sudan officials have also banned social media for 30 days. This ban can be extended for 90 days. It has been described as an important step for the safety of the public. The NCA said, “The restriction can be lifted as soon as the situation is controlled. There is resentment among the people of South Sudan due to video footage of the killing of South Sudanis by local fighters in the state. I condemned the “cruel killings of South Sudani citizens” and urged people to be restrained.
