Imagine… You are in the sky at a height of 36,000 feet, flying flying fast… and then the pilot sitting in the cockpit suddenly fainted! There is no control, no answer… There is just a machine that is flying between the clouds with you!
Something similar happened in a flight of Lufthansa, which has now been revealed by the company – while the accident happened about a year ago!
What was the whole matter?
The day was 17 February 2024, flight number LH-1790 was going from Frankfurt, Germany to Sevile in Spain. The Airbus A321 aircraft had 199 passengers and 6 crew members. Everything was going on normal. During the flight, the main pilots went to the washroom… and the co-pilot left alone in the cockpit.
And then… the co-pilots fainted!
Plane flying in the sky for 10 minutes without ‘driver’
As the co-pilot fainted, the aircraft went completely on autopylot mode. For about 10 minutes, the plane kept flying in the air without any human control. Meanwhile, the captain sitting outside tried to open the door of the cockpit – once, twice, three times… five times – but no answer!
Lock cockpit from inside, everyone’s heart beats
The attempt to contact the intercom also failed. Flight attendants upset, traveler unknown and captain badly worried. Finally, he put an emergency code, which would open the door automatically… but the miracle happened here!
The unconscious co-pilot opened the door in the last moments!
Perhaps a slight glimpse of consciousness or the finger was buried on a button – but that moment saved hundreds of lives.
Route changed immediately, emergency landing
The chief pilot immediately decided and folded the flight and made an emergency landing at Madrid Airport. The co-pilot was immediately rushed to the hospital.
Now a year later, Lufthansa confirmed this shocking incident. The company said that internal investigation has been done, although the complete information of the report has not been made public.
