Flood on the Nepal-China border caused havoc; 9 people died, 20 missing

At least nine people died and 20 others went missing due to flooding of the river due to monsoon rains in Rasuwa district of Nepal. This flood was washed away by the “Friendship Bridge” connecting the country to China.

The Bhotekoshi river in Nepal was flooded on Monday night due to continuous monsoon rains in China.

According to the report of the Republical newspaper, at least nine people were washed away due to floods. Their bodies were recovered in the flow of the river miles away from the Dhading and Chitwan districts.

The Miteri bridge located in Rasuwa district, 120 km from Kathmandu, was swept away in the flood at around 3:15 am on Tuesday. Out of the 20 people missing, three are security personnel and six Chinese citizens.

Dozens of rescuers were already present in the area. The flood damaged four hydroelectric projects in the district, affecting the supply of at least 211 MW to the National Electrical Grid. The flood -hit river took away 23 cargo containers, six cargo trucks and 35 electric vehicles.
