Rayuji Kimura (25) was accused of attempting to murder Kishida on April 15, 2023 in Wakayama. In addition, he was also charged with four other allegations, including violations of laws related to explosives and other weapons.
Kimura sentenced to 10 years jail
According to Japan’s public television and other media, the Wakayama district court in its judgment sentenced Kimura to 10 years in jail, but did not say which five charges were found guilty. The court did not confirm the immediate decision on the phone.
In the initial session of the trial in early February, Kimura refused to convict himself on charges of attempt to murder, saying he did not intend to kill Kishida. The then Prime Minister was not hurt in this attack, but two people suffered minor injuries. Kimura was arrested on the spot.
The attack took place about a year after the assassination of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during a campaign speech in another city of Nara in western Japan. Please tell that Shinzo Abe was shot dead by an attacker.
