Sheikh Hasina, former Prime Minister of Bangladesh
Dhaka: A Bangladesh court has increased their difficulties by issuing arrest warrants against 17 others, including disorganized Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her daughter Syima Wajid Putul. The court has released this warrant on Thursday in a corruption case. They are accused of acquiring residential plots through fraud. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hussain Ghalib accepted the charge sheet filed by the Anti -Corruption Commission (ACC).
The court has issued an arrest warrant against Sheikh Hasina as absconding. “Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hussain Ghalib issued a warrant while accepting the ACC charge sheet in the case,” a lawyer Mir Ahmed Salam, appearing for the ACC, issued a warrant. On May 4, he has been asked to submit his investigation report to hear the charge related to it.
Sheikh Hasina was sued in January 2025
The ACC filed a lawsuit on January 12, 2025 against the disorganized Prime Minister Hasina and other co-accused, mostly government officials. According to the charge sheet, “Putul” impressed his mother and the then Prime Minister Hasina with a malicious intentions to get a plot in the ‘Purbachal New City Housing Project’. The ACC alleged that Putul did this despite the fact that “he and his family members have a house, flat or housing under the jurisdiction of RAJUK in Dhaka city. Putul is working as South East Asian Regional Director in New Delhi, the World Health Organization (WHO) since November 20, 2023.
Arrest warrants have been issued against Hasina in many other cases
Bangladesh’s International Crime Tribunal had earlier issued arrest warrants on allegations such as crime against humanity against Hasina, her political colleagues and senior administrative and military officials. The warrant of Thursday came just a day after the ACC said that she has launched a new investigation on the alleged waste of 4,000 million Taka from the government treasury on organizing ‘Mujib Shatabdi’ by Hasina, her younger sister Sheikh Rehana and a former officer. Bangladesh organized the country’s founder Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 2020 on the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary, when Hasina’s Awami League was in power. (Language)
