Platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok have either been suspended or are working at a slow pace. Users are extremely frustrated with the limited access to online platforms. According to ‘Dawn’ newspaper, internet related problems are also being seen in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar and other parts of the country.

slow speed of internet

People in Pakistan are facing slow internet speed, this is because the government has installed ‘firewalls’ on social media apps as part of an alleged preventive measure to monitor anti-national content. The government did not pay attention to people’s complaints. The government dismissed concerns about the state of the firewall as “grossly exaggerated”.

‘Lakhs of cyber attacks happen every day in Pakistan’

Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunications, told Geo News on Sunday that the status of the ‘firewall’ has been “blown out of proportion and a web management system has been in place in the country for 10 years.” “There is no dispute about a country working on its cyber security,” he said, adding that the entire world uses different cyber security mechanisms. Fatima said that since Pakistan faces “millions of cyber attacks” every day, it is becoming difficult to detect terrorist activities in the country. (Language)
