Choksi has been arrested at the request of Indian investigative agencies
Mehul Choksi, an accused in the famous loan fraud case of Rs 13,500 crore from Punjab National Bank (PNB), and diamond businessman from India, Mehul Choksi, has been arrested in Belgium. This action was taken against the diamond businessman on Saturday.
It is being told that 65 -year -old Choksi was detained by the Belgian Police on the appeal of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Choksi is currently in jail and preparations are being made to hear her bail application.
Explain that the ED and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had requested the concerned department and officials to take action on Mehul in Belgium.
Choksi was living with his wife in Antwerp
Mehul Choksi is wanted for alleged involvement in Punjab National Bank of Rs 13,500 crore in loan fraud. He is living in Antwerp (Belgium) with his wife Preeti Choksi. He has citizenship of Antigua and Barbuda. He went out of the island nation for treatment. His nephew Nirav Modi is also a co-accused in this case. The process of extraditing him from London is also underway. He escaped from India in January 2018 a few weeks before the scam in the country’s second largest bank PNB.
Choksi is still a citizen of Antigua and Barbuda
Earlier, Foreign Minister of Antigua and Barbuda EP Shet Green had said on a question about Mehul Choksi that he is currently not in Antigua Barbuda and has gone abroad for treatment. He is still citizens of Antigua and Barbuda. Our government and your government are working together on this matter, but there are some rules in democracy. We have to respect the rule of law. The case of Mehul Choksi is being reviewed legal, till then we cannot say anything about it.
