Jerusalem: Hamas terrorists killed 6 Israeli-American hostages in Gaza. The Israeli army has recovered all their bodies. The parents of Israeli-American youth Hersh Goldberg-Polin confirmed this morning that the terrorists who took their son hostage in the Gaza Strip have killed him. With this, the months-long campaign run by his parents to ensure the release of Goldberg-Polin (23) also came to an end, which included meeting world leaders and pleading for help from the stage of the Democratic Party’s national convention in the US last month. US President Joe Biden said that Hamas will have to pay the price for this.
Hamas terrorists attacked a music festival in southern Israel last year and took Goldberg-Polin and several others hostage. Goldberg-Polin, a resident of Berkeley, California, lost his left hand in a grenade attack. In a video released by Hamas in April, his left hand was missing and he was clearly seen speaking in great pain. This sparked fresh protests in Israel demanding the release of the hostages.
Now the pressure on Netanyahu to release the hostages will increase
The killing of six hostages, including Goldberg-Polin, is expected to increase pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reach a deal to ensure the safe return of the remaining hostages. Netanyahu has taken a tough stand on the deal and said military action is needed to bring the hostages back. US President Joe Biden, who has met Goldberg-Polin’s parents, said he was “deeply saddened and angry.” He said, “This is as reprehensible as it is sad. Hamas leaders will have to pay the price for these crimes. We will continue to work day and night to reach a deal to ensure the release of the remaining hostages.”
Bodies of 6 hostages recovered
Goldberg-Polin’s family released a statement confirming her death after the Israeli military announced the discovery and identification of the bodies of six hostages in a tunnel in the Gaza Strip. Hersh Goldberg-Polin was among those hostages. “With heavy hearts, the Goldberg-Polin family confirms the death of their beloved child Hersh. The family thanks all of you for your love and support. They request that their privacy be respected during this time of grief,” the family said in the statement. (AP)
