Pakistani authorities have confirmed one new cases of infection with polio viruses in Sindh and Punjab provinces, which has shocked the country’s efforts to eradicate the disease.

According to the news of ‘Geo News’, new cases of infection have been reported from Kambar district of Sindh and Mandi Bahauddin district of Punjab, causing increased number of total cases of polio virus in the country to five this year. According to the Regional Reference Laboratory for Elimination of Polio at the National Institute of Health (NIH), this is the third case of the disease crippled in Sindh and the first case in Punjab.
74 patients met in 2024
There were a total of 74 polio cases in Pakistan last year. Of these, 27 cases were reported from Balochistan, 22 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 23 from Sindh and from Punjab and Islamabad. Polio is a paralyzed disease that has no cure and only several doses of oral anti -polio vaccine and regular vaccination programs for all children under five years of age can provide children high immune against this terrible disease. Pakistan conducts mass vaccination campaign several times a year through its anti -polio vaccination program, so that children can be vaccinated from house to house, while expanded vaccination program (EPI) provides free vaccination against 12 pediatrics on health facilities.
