Washington: As soon as US President Donald Trump took office, implementation of plans has started under the government order issued to crack down on migrants. The US Department of Defense, the Pentagon, will begin deploying more than 1,500 active troops to protect the southern border. American officials gave this information on Wednesday. Acting Defense Minister Robert Selous was expected to sign the deployment order on Wednesday, but it is not yet clear which troops or units will go.

It is being told that there may be a change in the number of soldiers. It remains to be seen whether they will do law enforcement work or not. The active duty forces will join the approximately two and a half thousand US National Guard and Reserve forces already there. The troops will be deployed to assist Border Patrol agents with logistics, transportation and barrier preparation.

Implementation of Trump’s decision begins

This responsibility was given to him when both Trump and former President Joe Biden had sent troops there earlier. Troops are banned from performing law enforcement duties under the Posse Comitatus Act, but that could be changing. In one of his earlier orders on Monday, Trump had directed the Defense Secretary to formulate a plan to ‘seal the borders’ and stop ‘illegal mass migration’. Trump has decided to expel illegal immigrants from the country. (AP)
