Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan
Islamabad: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Party has rejected the offer of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to resume the negotiations with the government through the Parliamentary Committee. According to Geo News, Shahbaz Sharif while addressing a cabinet meeting on Thursday said that the government is ready to set up a parliamentary committee to carry forward the talks with Imran Khan’s party.
What did PTI leader say?
Imran Khan’s party has stopped negotiation for not setting up a judicial commission to investigate the incidents of May 9, 2023 and 26 November 2024. In Geo News’s program ‘Capital Talk’, Omar Ayub Khan, the top leader of Imran’s party and leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, said, “We reject Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s (conversation) offer. Reiterating the party’s demands, Ayub said, “Our demands are clear.” He also appealed for the release of all “political prisoners”.
‘Conversation will solve the problem’
In a statement, the government’s talks committee spokesman Senator Irfan Siddiqui said that the opposition party has demonstrated a non-disclosure and non-political mentality with unilateral conversation. Criticizing Imran’s party’s agitating politics, the PML-N senator said that the opposition party has neither achieved its purpose in the past through a sit-in demonstration and long march in the past nor this time. Emphasizing the need to negotiate political stress in the country, Siddiqui said that the solution to every problem is a serious and meaningful conversation.
Due to this, the talks stuck
The talks between the government and Imran Khan’s party were stuck last week when the party went out of the talks on the instructions of its founder (Imran Khan) in jail. The opposition did not participate in the fourth round meeting on Tuesday and said that the decision to quit talks could be reviewed only after the formation of the judicial commissions to investigate the incidents of May 9, 2023 and 26 November 2024.
