Lahore: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party claimed on Thursday that the Punjab Police has started action against its organization’s leaders. PTI has said that many party leaders and workers have been arrested ahead of its proposed show of strength in Lahore on Saturday. This action taken by the police is being considered a big setback for Imran Khan.

What did Imran Khan say?

Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ali Ejaz Buttar said that the police have arrested PTI leaders Ali Imtiaz Warraich, Afzal Fatt and several other party workers ahead of the party’s show of strength to be held at Minar-e-Pakistan ground in Lahore on Saturday (September 21). Buttar said that despite the “fascist policy” of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government, the PTI will hold a historic rally in Lahore. PTI founder Imran Khan has asked the public to come out of their homes and participate in the September 21 rally. PTI leader Sanam Javed said, “This is a great opportunity for the people of Punjab, especially Lahore, to support Imran Khan.”

Petition filed in Lahore High Court

PTI has filed a petition in Lahore High Court requesting the court to order the state government not to harass and arrest its leaders and workers before Saturday’s rally. The petitioner argues that holding a rally is the constitutional and legal right of any political party and PTI should not be deprived of this right. On the other hand, a PML-N worker has also filed a petition in Lahore High Court requesting that PTI should not be allowed to hold a rally in Punjab. (Language)
