Lahore: Five supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan have been arrested in Pakistan for sharing fake pictures and videos of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on social media. . The Lahore Cyber Crime Unit of the Federal Investigation Agency has arrested all of them.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan arrived at Sheikh Zayed International Airport in Rahim Yar Khan last Sunday, where he was welcomed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Maryam was also present on the occasion and shook hands to greet Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
PTI surrounded Maryam
Opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had strongly criticized Maryam, terming her move to shake hands with the UAE President as highly inappropriate. Later, fake videos and pictures generated by AI software of Maryam’s conversation with the UAE President were circulated on social media.
Maryam gave orders for arrest
Expressing strong objection to these videos and pictures, Maryam had ordered to arrest the people involved in their broadcast. According to the Federal Investigation Agency, preliminary investigation has revealed that 20 social media accounts were involved in uploading fake photos and videos of the UAE President and Maryam. The agency said more arrests are likely to be made in the case in the coming days. (Language)
