Dhaka: A top adviser to Bangladesh’s interim government said on Tuesday that projects funded by India are “very important” and will continue under the new administration in the country. Finance adviser Salehuddin Ahmed said Bangladesh hopes to “enhance cooperation” with India during his meeting with Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma here, state-run news agency BSS reported.
‘Will continue the projects’
Salehuddin Ahmed said, “Already, the projects they (India) have are big projects and we will continue them. Whatever (projects) we have, we will not stop it and we will discuss about the financing and implementation of those projects.”
There was concern about the projects
The remarks by the financial adviser to Bangladesh’s interim government come amid concerns over the timely implementation of projects funded under India’s three line of credit assistance following the collapse of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government last month.
Projects are located in different places in Bangladesh
Indian High Commissioner Verma said that New Delhi has not stopped any of its loan facilities to Bangladesh as they are big projects. Verma said, “Those projects are ongoing and are basically very big projects and located in different places. So, the contractors will come back to start the projects.” In the meeting, both sides also discussed ways to enhance the existing bilateral economic cooperation. (Language)
