India is ‘Maharaj’ in the tariff case, the sharp rhetoric of American Diplomat Peter Navarro

The White House Senior Business Advisor Peter Navarro has made sharp statements about India and Russia. He said that India is ‘Maharaj’ in terms of tariff and is selling crude oil at low prices from Russia and selling it at high prices all over the world. He further said that by doing so, India is carrying out a ‘profiteering scheme’.

Let us know that this comment of Navaro has come at a time when External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has responded to India’s criticism by US authorities regarding energy relations with Russia and said that the US itself has asked to help stabilizing global energy markets by purchasing Russian oil. The White House advisor also discussed how India is ‘increasing intimacy’ with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The relations between New Delhi and Washington have come to an end after US President Donald Trump doubled the tariff on Indian goods to 50 percent, including 25 percent additional fees on the purchase of Russian crude oil by India. Navarro told reporters that before the invasion of Ukraine by Russia in February 2022, India did not actually buy Russian oil, it was about one percent of their needs. Now this percentage has increased to 35 percent.

Navaro’s new attack on India came three days after writing an article in the Financial Times, in which he criticized India for the purchase of Russian crude oil. He said that the argument that India needs Russian oil to meet its energy requirements. He said that they receive crude oil from Russia and make products by refining which they sell at high prices in Europe, Africa and Asia. He further said that this is a fully profiteering of the Indian refining industry. He further said that what is the total impact of our business with India on Americans? He is Maharaja in terms of tariff.

Peter Navaro said that there are only 6 days left. Secondary tariff will be implemented on India from 27 August. Earlier, Trump had said after meeting Russian President Putin that India would no longer have a new tariff. It has to be seen what Trump will do on August 27.
