Marco Rubio holds first meeting with S Jaishankar
Donald Trump has taken oath as the President of America. America has shown importance to India as soon as the Trump administration took charge. In such a situation, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Walz held their first bilateral international meeting with Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has gone to America to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Donald Trump. The meeting between the two top diplomats representing the world’s two oldest and largest democracies took place at the Foggy Bottom headquarters of the US State Department. Before the bilateral meeting, the first Quad ministerial meeting was held after Donald Trump became President.
As soon as the Trump administration was formed, the first bilateral meeting took place with India.
Let us tell you that usually after the selection of the new President in America, the first meeting is with America’s neighboring countries Canada or Mexico. However, this has not happened this time. This time America has held its first bilateral meeting with India. The bilateral meeting between new US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Dr S Jaishankar came less than an hour after the former Secretary of State officially assumed charge. Both the leaders had extensive discussions during this period, in which India-US strategic partnership was discussed in depth. Indian Ambassador to America Vinay Kwatra was also involved in this meeting which lasted for more than an hour.

Immediately after the end of this meeting, Secretary Rubio and Dr. S. Jaishankar addressed the international press. Here both the leaders shook hands warmly. After the meeting, S Jaishankar, writing a post on social media site X, said, it was a pleasure to meet Marco Rubio in his first bilateral meeting after taking charge as Foreign Minister. Reviewed our broad bipartisan partnership, of which Rubio has been a strong supporter. Views were also exchanged on a wide range of regional and global issues. Look forward to working closely with them to advance our strategic cooperation.
