A major energy summit took place between India and South Africa on Thursday, where the foundation of future relations for the Global South was laid. Earlier, during the recent G-20 conference held in Brazil, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had indicated to increase India’s energy participation in the countries of the Global South. Now an important energy conference held between India and South Africa in Johannesburg has created concern from America to China.

Named ‘Matla-Energy Energy Conference’ (‘Matla’ means ‘power’ in Sesotho language), more than 200 delegates shared their views in the energy sector. Reviewing the events at the closing dinner on Thursday evening, Consul General Mahesh Kumar highlighted some of the successes of the conference. “We have brought together the best of the best from Indian business and academia and their South African counterparts,” Kumar said.
India-South Africa’s deepening friendship
Ever since India made South Africa a permanent member of G-20 in the year 2023, its hold in the countries of the Global South is continuously getting stronger.
