Washington: India has once again been made proud by taking oath from 6 members of Indian origin in the US House of Representatives. On Friday, these 6 Indian-American leaders increased the pride of the country manifold by taking oath as members of the US House of Representatives. This is the first time that such a large number of Indian-Americans have taken oath as members of the House of Representatives. These include Dr. Amy Berry, Suhas Subramanian, Shri Thanedar, Ro Khanna, Raja Krishnamurthy and Pramila Jayapal.
MP Dr. Amy Berry said in a post on the social media platform ‘X’, “When I took the oath for the first time 12 years ago, I was the only MP from the Indian-American community and the third in American history. Now there are six of us. I hope that the number of people from our community in the US Parliament will increase in the coming years.” Bera has taken oath as a representative from California for the seventh consecutive time. He also posted a photo of all six Indian-American lawmakers.
Subramanian became a member of the House of Representatives for the first time
Suhas Subramanian took oath for the first time as a member of the House of Representatives. Posting a picture of himself with his family and ‘House Speaker’ Mike Johnson, Subramanian said, “First day on the job. I feel proud to take oath in the US Parliament. Khanna, Krishnamurthy and Jaipal have taken oath for the fifth consecutive time.
Mike Johnson re-elected speaker
Republican Party leader and MP Mike Johnson was re-elected Speaker of the US House of Representatives on Friday with a narrow victory of three votes. The Republican Party has 219 seats in the House, while the Democratic Party has 215 seats. 52-year-old Johnson, representing Louisiana’s fourth Congressional District, got 218 votes, while Democratic Party’s Hakeem Jeffries got 215 votes.
Trump expressed happiness on becoming the speaker of his party
Newly elected President Donald Trump congratulated Johnson on his re-election as speaker. He said, “Congratulations to Speaker Mike Johnson for receiving an unprecedented vote of confidence in Congress. Mike will be an excellent speaker who will benefit our country.” After winning the election, Johnson said, ”It is an honor for me.
