PM Modi Met Joe Biden: On Saturday, Indian Prime Minister (PM) Modi met US President Joe Biden, who described the India-US partnership as stronger, closer and more dynamic than at any time in history.

“A special start to an important visit. President Joe Biden extends a warm welcome to PM Narendra Modi at his residence in Greenville, Delaware,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a post on ‘X’.

Biden welcomed Modi at his residence in Wilmington, Delaware and the two leaders hugged each other. After this, Biden held Modi’s hand and took him inside his house.

“The US partnership with India is stronger, closer, and more dynamic than at any time in history. Every time we sit down with Prime Minister Modi, I am deeply pleased with our ability to find new areas of cooperation. Today was no different,” Biden said on ‘X’.

Meanwhile, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on ‘X’, “A warm and special start to an important visit. In a special gesture, Joe Biden hosted Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence. Joe Biden warmly welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Greenville, Delaware ahead of the bilateral meeting.”

Modi’s recent Ukraine visit is expected to be discussed prominently

According to US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, the war and Modi’s recent visit to Ukraine are expected to figure prominently in the bilateral meeting.

In his statement in Delhi before leaving for the US, Modi had said, “My meeting with President Biden will give us an opportunity to review and identify new ways to further deepen the India-US comprehensive global strategic partnership for the benefit of our people and the global good.”

Modi is accompanied by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra. The US delegation includes Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs T H Jake Sullivan and US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti.

Modi, who is on a three-day visit to the US, will also hold separate bilateral meetings with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. Both the leaders are here to attend the Quad summit.

President Biden is hosting the annual Quad summit in his hometown of Wilmington. It is expected that various new initiatives will be launched in this meeting to promote cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region. Apart from this, ways will be explored to find a peaceful solution to the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza.

The four-member Quad advocates maintaining a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region. China sees it as an adversarial group.

While leaving Delhi for the US, Modi said that he is looking forward to joining his colleagues President Joe Biden, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Prime Minister Fumio Kishida for the Quad summit.

He said, “This forum has emerged as a leading grouping of like-minded countries working for peace, progress and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.”

Earlier, a large gathering of Indian expatriates welcomed Modi at the Philadelphia International Airport.

Modi greeted a crowd of people dressed in traditional attire, many of whom were carrying the Indian flag. He walked through a security cordon, gave autographs to some of them and shook hands with others.

The Prime Minister said…

“A warm welcome to Philadelphia! We treasure the blessings of our diaspora,” Modi said in another post on ‘X’.

The Prime Minister said, “The Indian community has made its mark in the US and has made a positive impact in various sectors. It is always a pleasure to interact with them. Let us celebrate the bonds that connect our countries!”

From Wilmington, Modi will travel to New York where he will attend an Indian community event on Long Island on September 22. He is scheduled to attend a conference of the United Nations General Assembly the next day.

The Prime Minister’s other engagements include attending an event of the Indian diaspora community in Long Island and participating in a round table meeting with CEOs of US companies working on cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing and semiconductors.
