New Delhi: India on Wednesday told Maldives that it is ready to assist Maldives in enhancing its defense preparedness. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh hosted his Maldivian counterpart Mohammed Ghassan Maumoon for wide-ranging talks focusing on maritime security cooperation. According to a statement issued by India, in the meeting the Defense Ministers of the two countries reiterated their strong commitment to work together in realizing the joint vision for India-Maldives Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership.
India is ready for cooperation
“During the talks, both sides reiterated their strong commitment to work together to realize the joint vision of India-Maldives Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership,” the statement said. According to the statement, Singh said that Maldives India is ready to assist in capacity building for defense preparedness.
Both countries will move forward in this direction
The statement said that work will be done towards enhancing the capabilities in accordance with the national priorities of Maldives and in line with India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and ‘SAGAR’ approach. The ‘SAGAR’ approach is about security and development for all in the region.
Maldives Defense Minister is on a visit to India
Maldives Defense Minister Mohammed Ghassan Maumoon is on a three-day visit to India. The Defense Minister of this island country has come here about eight months after India withdrew its military personnel from Maldives on the demand of Maldivian President Mohammed Muizzu. There was tension in India-Maldives relations after Muizzu’s actions, which were considered pro-China. (Language)
