Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi
Kathmandu: Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday visited the Muktinath temple located in Nepal’s Gandaki province and offered prayers there. This temple has special religious significance in both Hindu and Buddhist religions. Sources at Nepal Army Headquarters said that General Dwivedi also visited the Western Division Headquarters of Nepal Army in Pokhara, where he was warmly welcomed by Major General Santosh Ballabh Paudyal.

The special thing is that a bell has been installed in this temple in honor of the late General Bipin Rawat, the first Chief of Defense Staff of India. A bell was installed here in February 2023 in the memory of Bipin Rawat, which symbolizes his contribution and services. General Rawat died in a helicopter crash in December 2021. This bell is known as ‘General Rawat Bell’, which symbolizes the deep military ties between India and Nepal.
Army Chief’s five-day visit
General Dwivedi had reached Kathmandu on Wednesday on a five-day official visit to Nepal at the invitation of Nepal Army Chief General Ashok Sigdel. General Dwivedi was awarded the honorary title of General of the Nepal Army by President Ramchandra Paudel. He also met Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Defense Minister Manbir Rai on Friday and discussed issues of mutual interest. (Language)
