New Delhi: An Indian soldier from Kerala has died in the Russia-Ukraine war. Binil Babu, 32, from Thrissur, Kerala, was recruited in the Russian army and was fighting against Ukraine. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has taken up the matter with the Russian government. The ministry said that India has reiterated its demand for early discharge of other people from the country included in the Russian Army.
Death in Ukraine drone attack
Binil Babu’s family had said that he and a relative were injured in the drone attack. They were later informed that Babu had died while the relative was undergoing treatment for serious injuries. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We have learned about the unfortunate death of an Indian national from Kerala, who Apparently recruited for service in the Russian army. Another Indian national from Kerala who has been recruited into the Russian Army has been injured and is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Moscow.
Indian Embassy in contact with Russian Embassy
Expressing his condolences to the family of the slain man, Jaiswal said the Embassy of India in Moscow is in touch with both the families and is helping them in every possible way. He said that there has also been a demand for “early discharge and sending back to India” of the injured person. The ministry also said that we are in touch with the embassy in Moscow and efforts are being made to bring the mortal remains to India. We are working with Russian authorities to bring back the mortal remains of the Kerala youth to India soon.
