Singapore: Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has appreciated the Indians living here. Accepting the contribution of people from Indian community in many areas including business and industry, PM Wong said that the ruling People’s Action Party (PAP) will also field people from the Indian community in the upcoming general election. During the dialogue with the Indian community, PM Wong said, “You (Indian community) can be a small community, but of course your contribution to Singapore and your influence is not small at all.”
‘Your story is the story of Singapore’
‘The Straits Times’ newspaper quoted Wong as saying, “In fact, I would say that you are already a reflection of Singapore’s spirit. Your story is the story of Singapore. ”Wong appreciated the contribution of Indians for the country in many areas including trade, industry and government in Singapore. PM Wonge said that new Indian candidates from PAP will be fielded for the upcoming election. The PM neither gave more information about this nor told anyone’s name.

These are big faces
Even though PM Wong has not mentioned anyone’s name, but according to media reports, the new faces recently seen with the leaders include Dinesh Vasu Das, former CEO of ‘Agency for Integrated Care’, ‘Law firm Tito Isaq and Company’ Managing partner Kaval Pal Singh, big face Jagatishwar Rajo in Trade Union and Indian Orthopedic Surjan Hamid Razak.
Was earlier ignored
Earlier, the People’s Action Party ignored the Indian community in Singapore. The party fielded 27 new faces in the 2020 general election. However, there was not a single candidate of Indian origin in these faces. After this decision of PAP in 2020, questions were also raised about the representation of the Indian community in Singapore. According to the news of a Singapore newspaper, in 2024, people of Indian origin were 7.6 percent of the Singapore population, while Malaysia had 15.1 percent and China’s 75.6 percent. (Language)
