United Nations: Two Indian peace soldiers who lost their lives while serving under the United Nations last year will be posthumously honored by the world body. The World Institution is celebrating the International United Nations Peace Sainik Day in memory of the United Nations Peace Soldiers this week. The theme of this year’s International United Nations Peace Sainik Day is ‘Future of Peace Establishment’.
Will be honored on 29 May
A statement said that Brigadier General Amitabh Jha, who served in the ‘UN Dysingment Observatory Force’ (UNDOF), and Havildar Sanjay Singh, posted in the United Nations Lustration Mission (MONUSCO) in the Republic of Congo, will be honored with the ‘Dag Hammarsald’ post in a meeting here on the occasion of International United Nations Peace Sainik Day.
India has a big contribution
India is the fourth largest contributor to send military personnel in the United Nations peace establishment. Currently more than 5,300 military and police personnel of India are deployed in the United Nations Peace Campaigns in the Central African Republic Abei, Congo Democratic Republic, Lebanon, Somalia, South Sudan and Western Sahara.
Guterres will preside over the ceremony
United Nations Secretary -General Antonio Guterres will pay floral cycle to pay tribute to more than 4,400 peace soldiers who lost their lives during their service in the world body since 1948 during the ceremony held at the headquarters of the World Institution on the occasion of Shanti Sainik Day. Guterres will also preside over a function, in which 57 military, police and civilian peace soldiers who lost their lives under the United Nations last year will also be awarded the ‘Dag Hamarshald’ medals after posthumously.
