Jakarta: There has been a major accident in the west Java province of Indonesia. The accident occurred when old and unusable ammunition was being disposed of. The Indonesian Army member was settling old, unusable and ineffective ammunition in Sagra village in Garut district, which was stored in a military warehouse center. Indonesian military spokesperson Major General Christomi Sianaturi said the second explosion occurred soon after one explosion. Sianaturi said that 9 common citizens and 4 military personnel died. He said that the injured are being treated. Sianaturi said that the incident is still being investigated and it is also being ascertained whether the standard procedures were followed during the disposal of ammunition.

This place of Western Java is vacant and far from residential areas. Ammunition is often disposed of here. Sianaturi said that such activities often attract the attention of the surrounding residents, which collect metal pieces, copper or iron residues from grenades and mortars. He said, “Television footage shows scenes of the explosion in which bright light and dense black smoke is seen rising some time after the explosion.
