Syria Civil War: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has said that the recent developments in Syria, including the fall of the Bashar al-Assad government, are part of a joint plan between America and Israel. The government television channel here gave this news on Wednesday. “There should be no doubt that what has happened in Syria is the result of American and Jewish (in reference to Israel) planning,” the channel quoted Khamenei as saying. “We have evidence,” he said. And this evidence leaves no scope for doubt.”
Neighboring country played a big role
“Syria, a neighboring country, has played a clear role in this matter, and is continuing to do so,” Iran’s supreme leader said, without naming any country. Everyone can see this.” If seen, the neighboring country towards which Khamenei is pointing is Turkey.
Assad’s fall is a blow to Iran
Iran was considered a major ally of Syria’s Bashar al-Assad government. Iran used to help Assad by providing weapons, military equipment and training to the army to fight Syria. But, when the rebels entered city after city in Syria and Assad had to flee the country, even Iran could not help. The fall of the Assad government in Syria is no less than a major setback for Iran.
