Israel and Hamas agree to ceasefire
There will be no war between Israel and Hamas for the next six weeks. Israel and Hamas have agreed on ceasefire. An Israeli official says Gaza ceasefire talks with Hamas hit a last-minute hurdle, stalling the deal, the AP reports. A Hamas official said the group had rejected Israel’s proposal for a Gaza ceasefire and that talks were continuing. Qatar and Hamas officials then said the last-minute standoff had been resolved in ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas. After that, Israeli and Hamas officials said that a ceasefire has been agreed to stop Israel’s war in Gaza and release dozens of hostages.
Qatar mediated, only then the matter was resolved
Qatar’s prime minister, who is mediating the talks, met separately with the Hamas and Israeli delegations, and shortly afterward, the dispute was resolved, the Qatari official told the AP. Let us tell you that the ceasefire agreement marks the end of the 15-month-long conflict between Israel and Hamas.
The US, Egypt and Qatar last year brokered an end to the war triggered by Hamas’ attack on Israel in October 2023. During months of talks, both sides had previously said they were close to a ceasefire only to hit roadblocks at the last minute.
The war on Gaza broke out after Hamas launched its deadliest attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, resulting in the deaths of 1,210 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally. Hamas also took 251 hostages from Israel during the attack, 94 of whom are still being held in Gaza, 34 of whom have been declared dead by the Israeli military.
