Beirut/Jerusalem: Israel carried out a major air strike on Beirut this afternoon. This has increased the pressure on Hezbollah. Two Lebanese security sources said that a Hezbollah commander was also killed in Israeli air strikes in the southern suburbs of Beirut on Tuesday. Israel attacked Hezbollah-controlled areas in the Lebanese capital for the second consecutive day. However, the sources refused to identify who was targeted in the attack. The Israeli army said that it had carried out a targeted attack in Beirut but did not give any details.
A building in the usually busy Ghobeiri area was targeted in the airstrike. One of the security sources shared a photo showing damage to the top floor of the five-story building. Israel carried out a new series of airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon and said it would keep up pressure on the armed group, as Iran-backed foe Hezbollah fired rockets into Israel on Tuesday amid growing fears of an all-out war in the Middle East.
More than 500 died in Israeli attack
According to Lebanese officials, more than 500 people have been killed in Israeli army air strikes carried out on Monday and Tuesday. These include more than 50 children and about 100 women. While more than 1600 people have been injured. Israel’s military chief has said that attacks on Hezbollah will be intensified. Military Chief General Staff Herzi Halevi said after the security assessment, “Sustained, intensive action is needed in all areas.” UN human rights chief Volker Turk has urged all influential countries and leaders to prevent further tension in Lebanon.
