PM Shahbaz Sharif in Pakistan’s Parliament
Islamabad: The Parliament of Pakistan has done something amazing on Friday. Four Bills were called in a hasty session bypassing the protest of other MPs, including the party of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was jailed. Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq presided over the joint session of the Senate and the National Assembly. The joint session of Parliament lasted only 18 minutes, during which four bills were passed in just 9 minutes. The joint session was adjourned till 12 February after the four bills were passed.
These bills passed
Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan introduced the Trade Organization Amendment Bill 2021 and the Import and Export Regulation Amendment Bill 2023, which were approved. Senate member Manzoor Kakad introduced the National Institute of Excellence Bill 2024, which was passed with the National Institute of Technology Bill 2023.
Opposition members raised slogans
Members of the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf requested the right to speak, but the speaker refused to give a microphone to the opposition leaders, which led to the protests. In response, opposition members raised slogans.
PM Shahbaz Sharif joined joint session
Prominent leaders including Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Senate President Yusuf Raza Geelani, former Prime Minister Raja Parvez Ashraf and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari attended the joint session. (Language)
