Meeting of Arab leaders in Baghdad.

Baghdad: Leaders who attended the annual Arab Summit held on Saturday in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, promised to pursue the ceasefire efforts in the Gaza Strip and contribute to the reconstruction of the region after the end of the war. The summit took place at a time when the ongoing struggle between Israel and Hamas is at its peak and recently a direct dialogue between the two sides failed.

Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and many other Arab leaders attended the summit. The guests also included Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and United Nations Secretary -General Antonio Gutaras.

UN emphasizes humanitarian aid and release of hostages

The United Nations chief called for uninterrupted flow of human assistance and release of Israeli hostages in Gaza. He bluntly stated that the United Nations rejects the forced displacement of Palestinians. Please tell that in January, Israel broke the ceasefire with Hamas. Since then, Israeli attacks in Gaza have intensified. More than 250 people have been killed in the last 72 hours.

Resolve to erase Hamas

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has resolved to completely eliminate Hamas. Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani said, “This genocide is more frightening than any struggle in history.” He also appealed to ensure access to humanitarian aid in Gaza.

Financial assistance and schemes for reconstruction

Iraq announced that it would set up a billion dollar regional reconstruction fund. Under this, $ 20 million will be assisted for Gaza and $ 20 million for Lebanon. Egyptian President Al-Sisi said that his country is holding active talks for the ceasefire with America and Qatar. He said that due to these efforts, Israeli -origin American hostage Aden Alexander was released. Egypt is also planning to hold an international conference to reconstruct Gaza soon.

Palestinian leadership call

Palestinian President Mahmood Abbas urged Hamas to leave power in Gaza and hand over arms to the Palestinian Authority. So that a government of unity can be formed. Gaza has been controlled by Hamas since 2007 and reconciliation efforts with the government -led government have failed many times. (AP)
