North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was also present at the ceremony.
In the pictures obtained from the satellite, the warship is seen bent and covered with blue cover on one side, while some parts of it appeared submerged in water. It was described as the largest and technically advanced warship in the country, which has been designed to equip the nuclear missiles including other modern weapons. Describing the damage to the vessel as a result of “criminal negligence”, Kim Jong Un expressed his displeasure over the incident. After this, the Chief Engineer of Chongjin Shipyard, construction workshop head and Deputy Manager of Administrative Affairs were taken into custody. Shipyard manager Hong Kill Ho is also being questioned.
Kim Jong told the ship to be damaged
North Korea’s Central Military Committee has declared strict action against the culprits, calling it a “unforgivable criminal act”. However, the official statement refused to cause serious damage to the vessel. According to officials, there have been minor scratches in the lower part of the vessel and the sea water was flooded, which will take about 10 days to extract and repair. This failure is considered to be a diplomatic and military setback for North Korea, especially when Kim Jong is trying to strengthen his naval forces in view of American military pressures.
