Lebanon shaken by Israeli attack.
Marjayoun (Lebanon): The death toll in the deadly attack by the Israeli army in Lebanon on Monday has reached 500. These include more than 90 women and children. The number of children alone is 35. While 1645 people have been injured. From this, the horror of the attack can be easily gauged. Let us tell you that this is the most horrific attack after the Israel-Hezbollah war in the year 2006. The Israeli army had warned the residents of southern and eastern Lebanon to vacate the place as part of its massive air strike against Hezbollah.
Thousands of Lebanese civilians began fleeing from the south and the main highway passing through the southern port city of Sidon was jammed with cars heading towards Beirut. It was the largest exodus since 2006. Lebanon’s Health Ministry said the attacks killed 492 people, including 35 children and 58 women, and injured 1,645. The country had not yet recovered from the deadly attack on communications equipment last week when this deadly attack was carried out. The death toll in this attack is far higher than the devastating Beirut port explosion in 2020, when hundreds of tons of ammonium nitrate stored in a warehouse exploded. At least 218 people were killed and more than 6,000 were injured in this incident.
Netanyahu issued a message
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a recorded message to Lebanese citizens to evacuate the area, “Take this warning seriously.” Netanyahu said, “Please move away from danger now. You can safely return to your homes after our operation is over.” Israeli military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said the army would do “whatever is necessary” to drive Hezbollah out of Lebanon’s border with Israel. Hagari claimed that Hezbollah has suffered heavy losses due to extensive air strikes on Monday. He said, “We do not want war. We want to eliminate threats. We will do whatever is necessary to complete this mission. We hope we will complete it as soon as possible.”
Hezbollah has fired 9000 rockets on Israel so far
Israeli army chief Daniel Hagar said Hezbollah has launched nearly 9,000 rocket and drone attacks targeting Israel since Oct. 7 last year, including 250 on Monday alone. The military spokesman said Israeli warplanes struck 1,600 Hezbollah targets on Monday, destroying cruise missiles, long- and short-range rockets and attack drones. He said many Hezbollah fighters were hiding in residential areas, showing photos of weapons hidden in private homes. (AP)
