Border Security Force (BSF) constable Purnam Kumar Sahu’s wife said that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee spoke on the phone and assured to make every effort for the release of her husband.
Rajni, wife of BSF jawan, said that the Chief Minister called him on Sunday evening. Earlier, Rajni had expressed his desire to meet the Chief Minister to meet her husband to speed up her husband’s release attempt.
Sahu (40), posted in Ferozepur sector of Punjab, inadvertently crossed the international border on 23 April and was later taken into custody by ‘Pakistan Rangers’.
Rajni, a resident of Rishra in Hooghly district of West Bengal, told reporters, “The Chief Minister also asked about my health and assured me that she would ensure medical help for the elderly people of my in -laws when needed. He also assured to make every effort for the release of my husband. “
Rajni said that he has spoken to the BSF officials after the consent between India and Pakistan to stop military action but has not yet received any fresh information.
The wife of the BSF worker hoped that her husband would be brought back with a possible swap with that ‘Pakistani Ranger’ which was caught by Indian forces in Rajasthan on May 3.
Senior Trinamool Congress leader and MP Kalyan Banerjee said that he had spoken to the Director General of BSF on Saturday evening regarding Sahu’s release.
