UNICEF said that hundreds of rape cases with children have been reported in Sudan.
Cairo: The United Nations Children Agency, ie UNICEF, said in a shocking report on Tuesday that hundreds of children have been victims of rape since the beginning of 2024 in Sudan-hit Sudan. The institution said that more than 30 percent of the victims were suffering in cases of rape of children. The victims include 16 children under the age of 5 and 4 babies. These cases were reported in the states of Gaderf, Kasala, Gasera, Khartum, River Nile, Northern State, South Kordofan, North Darfur and West Darfur.
‘Use of war strategy’
‘UNICEF’ spokesman Tes Ingram said that out of 221 victims of rape, 73 cases were related to the fight while 71 had nothing to do with it and the rest of the cases were unknown. UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell said in the report that sexual violence, including rape, is being used as a strategy of war ‘which is a violation of international law and laws related to safety of children.
Boy raped on gun
The non-profit organization ‘SIHA Network’, which raised reports of violence against women and girls, said last month that about 23 percent of cases of sexual violence related to conflict were related to girls since the war started. A boy was raped on a gun in South Kordophan and many children, including a 6 -year -old child, were also raped.
