Muhammad Yunus Chief Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh

Dhaka: Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, has called for preserving documents of alleged atrocities committed during the administration of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. According to the news of the ‘Dhaka Tribune’ newspaper, Yunus emphasized during a meeting with UN officials that without the appropriate archive management system, it is difficult to know the truth and ensure justice.

People suffering from atrocities?

A statement issued by the Chief Advisor’s ‘Press Branch’ stated that during a conversation with the United Nations ‘Resident Coordinator’ Guen Lewis and United Nations Human Rights Specialist Huma Khan, the Chief Advisor handed over the action on protesters in Shapla Chattar, after the decisions of Delor Hussain Saidi, the Chief Advisor handed over the action against the protesters and the alleged killings of the years. In response, United Nations officials confirmed their desire to assist Bangladesh in documentation of human rights violations. Offering the expertise of the United Nations in technical assistance and capacity building, Louis said, “This (to the victims of atrocities) is a process of healing and true-building.”

Rohingya also discussed

Yunus also appreciated the recent report of the organization on the human rights violation after the July-August 2024 rebellion, which ended the 15-year rule of the Awami League and Hasina migrated to India. According to Lewis, the United Nations High Commissioner Volcar Turk for human rights will present documents at the Human Rights Council session in Geneva on March 5. Yunus said, “We are very happy that the United Nations has published this report, this happened on time.” The discussion also discussed the plight of Rohingya refugees, in which Lewis expressed concern over the declining international assistance.

UN General Secretary will visit Bangladesh

UN Secretary -General Antonio Gutaras will visit Bangladesh from 13 to 16 March. Lewis hoped that this journey of Gutaras would attract the world’s attention on the refugee crisis. Louis said, “We are very concerned about the situation of money.” He said that Rohingya refugees require US $ 150 lakh per month to meet food supply and other basic needs. (Language)
