External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday interacted on telephone with American counterpart Marco Rubio and discussed the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir.
Jaishankar said that the criminals, supporters and planners of the attack should be brought into the dock of justice.
Jaishankar wrote on X, “Yesterday discussed the Pahalgam terror attack with US Secretary of State Rubio. Its criminals, supporters and planners should be brought into the dock of justice.”
During the talks, Rubio confirmed the US commitment to cooperate with India against terrorism.
Rubio encouraged India to work with Pakistan to “reduce stress” and to maintain peace and security in South Asia, expressing grief for those killed in Pahalgam, “US State Department spokesman Tami Bruce said in a statement.
Negotiations between the two leaders are taking place at a time when there has been an increase in ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir after a cruel attack in Pahalgam on 22 April. In this attack, 26 people were killed by terrorists and many others were injured.
The Indian Army has effectively responded to the firing of small weapons by Pakistan’s Army across the Line of Control. After the attack, India has taken several steps against Pakistan to support cross -border terrorism, which includes postponing the Indus Water Treaty and closing the integrated check post in the attic. India has also decided to cut the number of highways.
Earlier on 29 April, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defense Staff General Anil Chauhan and heads of the three armies were involved in this. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval was also present at the meeting.
The meeting was held on April 23 after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, a few days after the Cabinet Committee meeting on security. Government sources said that Prime Minister Modi said that it is the national resolution of India to give a shock to terrorism.
Sources said that Prime Minister Modi expressed full confidence and confidence in the professional capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces. He said that Prime Minister Modi said that the Indian armed forces have complete freedom to take the way of India’s response, target and timely decision.
Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Tripathi of Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh and Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh attended the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Modi on Tuesday.
