According to media reports, after suspension of trade relations with India, Pakistani health officials have started an emergency plan to secure drug supply. According to Geo News, immediate measures were taken to secure the needs of medicine due to Pakistan’s trade stopping with India. Health officials have activated the emergency plan to protect the country’s drug supply.

Along with disrupting supply from India, Pakistan’s Drug Regulatory Authority is now looking for alternative sources from China, Russia and many European countries to maintain the availability of essential medical supplies such as anti-rabies vaccine, anti-sainam, anti-cancer, cancer therapy, monoclonal antibodies and other important biological products.

There may be a decrease of medicines in Pakistan

Pakistan’s Drug Regulatory Authority (DRAP) confirmed that although no formal notification has been issued regarding the impact of the ban on the drug sector, preparations are already going on. A senior DRAP official said, “After the 2019 crisis, we started preparing for such an emergency situation. Now we are actively considering alternative methods to meet our drug related needs.” Health experts have warned that if quick action is not taken, there may be a shortage.

Dependence on India for raw materials

A healthcare official said, “Pakistan imports about 30% -40% of its drug raw materials from India. We also import from India, especially anti-cancer treatment, organic products, vaccines, vaccines, especially anti-rebase vaccine and anti-snake venom.” The Ministry of Health has not yet received any formal instructions to clarify the status of drug imports, while the government’s comprehensive trade suspension is effective. Pakistan is afraid that if there is a hindrance in it, then there may be a serious shortage of life saving drugs.
