A colleague of Bangladesh Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has said that the next general election will be ‘the most reliable and peaceful’ in the history of the country and the interim government has taken all necessary steps to ensure independent and fair elections.
According to the government news agency Bangladesh Sangabad Sanstha (BSS), Yunus’s press secretary Shafiqul Alam made this comment on Saturday during a conversation with reporters in Khulna city.
Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus announced last month that the general elections in Bangladesh will be held in April next year. Alam said, “The upcoming national elections will be the most reliable and peaceful elections in the history of the country.”
He said that in July 2024, the primary goal of a large -scale rebellion to remove the Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina was to restore democracy in Bangladesh. He said that the interim government has taken all necessary steps to ensure independent and fair elections.
On August 5 last year, Sheikh Hasina moved to India after his withdrawal from power after a widespread protests led by students.
Last week, the Interim government formed a committee to investigate allegations of irregularities, corruption and administrative involvement in the general elections of 2014, 2018 and 2024.
