Karachi Pakistan News: A prestigious private university located in Sindh province of Pakistan issued a show cause notice to the students for celebrating Holi in its campus, which raised controversy. The university administration termed it a violation of the rules of the campus, while critics termed it a violation of the religious rights of the minorities.
Dispute on notice, administration clarified
Former MP Lal Malhi shared the notice issued to the students by Dawood Engineering and Technology University on social media, after which the matter came into the discussion. Giving clarification, the university administration said that this is an old case and no FIR has been registered against the students.
According to an official, “Students were issued a notice on organizing the program on the campus without prior permission of the administration. It was against the university rules, and the students have already responded to the notice. ”
Question on the religious rights of minorities
Former MP Lal Malhi expressed concern over the growing restrictions on the religious traditions of minorities in Pakistan. He questioned, “Is it a crime to celebrate Holi in Pakistan?” He said that last year Hindu students had to face a similar situation. In some other provinces, incidents of harassing the Hindu community about the festival of Holi were also reported.
Increasing concerns of minority community
The incident further strengthens allegations of discrimination against religious minorities in Pakistan. Leaders of the minority community say that such incidents are an attack on their rights of religious freedom.
However, the university administration says that it is not a matter of religious discrimination, but an issue related to the disciplinary rules of the institute. But despite this, the case has again sparked debate over the situation of religious freedom in Pakistan.
