Gaza: A three-week-old baby girl, forced to live in a tent in the harsh cold in Gaza due to the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, died. The incident comes at a time when Israel and Hamas are accusing each other of complicating the ceasefire agreement. Doctors said that this is the third case of death due to cold of a child living in tents in Gaza in recent days. The war that has been going on between Israel and Hamas for the last 14 months has caused huge devastation.

According to Gaza’s health ministry, more than 45,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli bombings and ground attacks on Gaza, more than half of them women and children. Due to this war, about 90 percent of the approximately 23 lakh population of Gaza has had to be displaced several times. Thousands of people living in tents are shivering due to the onset of cold. Aid groups are struggling to deliver food and other essential items.

According to aid groups, these people do not even have blankets and warm clothes. Mahmoud al-Fasih, the father of three-week-old Sila, who was forced to live in a tent in the Muwasi area outside the city of Khan Younis, said he wrapped the girl in blankets to protect her from the cold but it was not enough. He said that on Tuesday night there were cold winds blowing in the tent amid a temperature of nine degrees Celsius and the ground was cold. “It was very cold the whole night,” he said. Fasih said Sila woke up crying three times during the night and in the morning they found her unconscious and her body stiff. He took him to a hospital where doctors tried to save him, but his lungs had already stopped working. (Language)
